Summertime in Seattle is a mind-blowing experience. I’ve lived here since 1995 and you would think that by now I’d be accustomed to the jaw-dropping views of Mount Rainier with its perpetual snow cap, soaring eagles, and purple mountains. The fact of the matter is, for me, that’s a typical drive into the city…and I never tire of it.

July was an incredibly busy month. Thankfully, my camera never leaves my side, and my memories are safely captured on a stack of SD cards. (No time to edit photos, I just keep buying new cards. So far, I’ve managed to fill up two 8 gig cards and a 4 gig!)

Between an intense travel schedule, a handful of clients, more events than I can count, and a major project on the horizon, I desperately need to slow the pace down.

Finally, I am home.

My luggage is half unpacked, I’ve got a mountain of e-mail, and frankly, my car looks like I’ve been taking up residence in it. But all that can wait.

Today, I joined friends for coffee and took a leisurely trip back home…detouring by way of the farmer’s market. Wandering among the stalls, taking time to notice changes in produce…there’s some thing soul-satisfying about being at the market. Fortunately for Seattleites, we have plenty to choose from (35 in King County alone!).

A few snaps from today…

I just found your blog. I guess I followed a lucky link–I don't even remember what I was looking for. I'm especially enjoying all of the ideas of things to do in Seattle. I've lived here for ages.

But at the end of the summer, the last week before my son goes back to school, he gets a week of "Mommy Daddy Camp" where we compile a list of fun activities around Seattle and then we are on the go all week. For example, last year we included the "Search for the Best Donut in Town," The Underground Tour, blueberry picking, ethnic food we've never eaten before, boating on Greenlake and ice cream samplings. I'm getting some great ideas for next weeks' camp activities on your blog. I work next door to Bakery Nouveau so our paths have probably crossed.

Thanks for all the ideas!

Meryl,

I'm so glad you wrote! I LOVE the idea of Mommy Daddy Camp. It reminds me of a time when I first moved to Seattle. I teamed up with another new resident. We'd take $20 each and go to Pike Place Market. Together, we'd buy anything we've never had before…noshing on Hum Bow, kumquats, and charcuterie. It was a fantastic time.

I'm also reminded of trips friends of mine & I would do in the International District on a progressive food tour. We'd pick a restaurant, let them pick the top 2 dishes, enjoy and then move on to the next restaurant. I had visions of hitting 4-5 restos in a day, but we never made it past 3. But it was great introduction to restaurants I maybe would have never tried.

Enjoy! Sounds like you've got a fabulous wrap up to summer ahead!
